About Notre Dame de Namur University
Mission Statement
Founded upon the values of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur and rooted in the Catholic tradition, Notre Dame de Namur University serves its students and the community by providing excellent professional and liberal arts programs in which community engagement and the values of social justice and global peace are integral to the learning experience. NDNU is a diverse and inclusive learning community that challenges each member to consciously apply values and ethics in his or her personal, professional, and public life.

Vision Statement
Notre Dame de Namur University will be recognized in the San Francisco Bay Area as a leader in integrating community engagement into high quality academic programs. NDNU’s programs will be widely known for their innovative synthesis of liberal arts learning, professionally oriented learning, and core values.

Hallmarks of a Notre Dame de Namur Learning Community
The Hallmarks describe the essential characteristics, values, and activities of a Notre Dame learning community, and help to answer the question, “What makes NDNU a Notre Dame de Namur school?” The Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, in collaboration with its learning communities, answered this question by developing a series of seven living statements that inform the activities of our university community. Learn more about the Hallmarks.

Core Values
Notre Dame de Namur University was founded by the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur and the values espoused by the Sisters continue to inspire the university. Our Core Values—community, diversity, excellence, goodness, integrity, justice, learning, service—are closely linked to the Hallmarks of a Notre Dame de Namur Learning Community developed by the Sisters in collaboration with NDNU and other SNDdeN learning communities. These values should be considered in the context of the Hallmarks. Learn more about our Core Values.

Catholic Identity Statement
The NDNU Board of Trustees approved a Catholic Identity Statement in May 2012 to express how NDNU’s Catholic heritage informs and directs the mission of the university. This is a living document, expressing the university’s mission and identity in the light of today’s world and conditions, and like the university itself, will undoubtedly evolve and adapt as conditions change. Read our Catholic Identity Statement.

Strategic Plan
The most recent NDNU Strategic Plan was approved by the Board of Trustees in 2018. Read the Strategic Plan.
